So I love reader feedback, & I thought it might be fun to ask for opinions.
"Unlike some faeries, he didn’t bother with a glamour. He sat on a bench across from the tables where she had coffee with her study group. These together-but-not times were the closest thing she’d had to a date in months. He read whatever his book of the day was, and she studied. [excerpt section omitted] She couldn’t see the cover at first, but he noticed. With a grin, he lifted it higher, blocking his face and letting her see the title."
I'm not telling which Dark King. I've pondered Heart Shaped Box (one of the best books I've read in forever, appropriately dark, & really beautifully constructed), Good Omens or American Gods (bc everyone should read Gaiman), Faulkner (Sound & Fury or Absalom!Absalom!), Fables or Spike graphic novels . . . Nietzsche.
. . . which by admitting prob will let some of you guess WHICH of the two it is. *g* But I got to thinking, just in general, I get to shop for them (no, I don't purchase things) all the time. I collect songs they'd like, save pictures of clothing, jewelry, art, or buildings they'd like. Do you have any recs for them? (Either of them).
What books would you lend either of the Dark Kings? Why?

I'd loan Irial A Clockwork Orange. I think he'd understand both sides of the equation--the joy in violence, and the need for a limit. Then there's the hypocritical bizarreness of the cruel methods that the government in the book uses to break criminals of their violent tendencies...all around, a great book.

Good Omens/American Gods. Not only because they're great books but even if you don't know the books and just think about the titles... But at the moment a lot of things are funny that really aren't.

Lovecraft, because I'd love the perspective they could offer. Maledicte by Lane Robins seems up they alley too.
And Speak to Irial, because he seems to lack a little perspective.

No kidding about death! I choked on my apple! Lol. I am a harbinger of doom, it would seem. It wouldn't work as well for the guys, but it might be cute for a faery to be reading A Midsummer Night's Dream. Some lovely Shakespeare about fey screwing up mortal lives.

That would be funny or they could be reading to: A: Why are you reading that? B: I want to see how much they got wrong.

Hee! I can so see that. Or Disney, just to laugh at it.
I would lend them Phantom of the Opera. I think either would like it.

Yeah, it doesn't have to be something that reflects them either I remember reading some extra stuff on Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl where there were interviews with the characters and Butler, the big tough very intimidating/scary bodyguard, loved reading romance novels in his spare time because he has to deal with violence and "shoot em up" on a daily basis. I can't picture any dark king reading a romance novel (at least not in public ) but you get the general idea.

I could see both of them reading Focault- especially Iri. Iri would also enjoy "Fight Club" and "The Great Gatsby" and "Native Son". Perhaps some Freud. Caroll Lewis, also. Niall I see reading angsty books. Anne Rice would be too much, perhaps ... but what about "Son of a Witch"?. Virginia Woolf might also suit him. It would be funny if either one was reading Emma Bull Edit: It would also be very funny if either was reading Harry Potter

I love your book choices Dusty! They're great! I agree about the Harry Potter one though. I'd definitely laugh. Yeah! Iri would like "Fight Club". I can sense it.
